Purpose: To provide academic support and guidance for postsecondary education.

Why: Access to quality education is a key determinant of success in STEM fields. Our educational workshops offer tutoring, college application assistance, and financial aid guidance. We aim to demystify the postsecondary education process and provide the tools needed for academic achievement and accessibility.

Study Skills and Academic Strategies For Success:

  • This workshop is designed to help youth develop effective study habits and academic strategies that can enhance their performance in school. Participants will learn how to take better notes, manage their time efficiently, prepare for exams, and utilize resources effectively. The workshop will provide practical tips and techniques to help students stay organized and motivated.

  • By the end participants will be able to:

    • Identify different learning styles and identify their own.

    • Learn effective note-taking methods and study techniques.

    • Develop time management skills for balancing academics and extracurricular activities.

    • Create a personalized study plan and set academic goals.

College/University Preparation and Application Process 101:

  • This workshop aims to demystify the college application process for youth, providing them with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully apply to postsecondary institutions. Participants will learn about the different types of colleges, the application timeline, how to write a compelling personal statement, and the importance of extracurricular activities and recommendation letters.

  • By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Discus the various types of postsecondary institutions and their requirements.

    • Learn more about the college application timeline and key deadlines.

    • Develop skills to write a strong personal statement and gather recommendation letters.

    • Explore the importance of extracurricular activities and how to highlight them in applications.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities 101:

  • This workshop is designed to educate youth about the various financial aid and scholarship opportunities available to help fund their postsecondary education. Participants will learn how to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), search for scholarships, and understand the different types of financial aid packages. The workshop will provide tips for writing scholarship essays and managing financial aid offers.

  • By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

    • Identify the different types of financial aid (grants, loans, work-study) and how to apply for them.

    • Learn how to complete the FAFSA and other financial aid applications.

    • Develop skills to search for and apply to scholarships.

    • Gain tips for writing effective scholarship essays and managing financial aid offers.
